"BACKUP DATABASE NOT BACKED UP" Makes Backups Of Datafiles Yet Backed Up

(Doc ID 2231954.1)

Last updated on MARCH 10, 2017

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version 11.2.0.3 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Requirement : -

Due to space problems need to do the full database backup in two go.

First we want to backup the very big tablespaces, and after that the rest of the database.

First backup is taken with

RMAN>run {allocate channel ...sbt ;
                Backup tablespace SYSTEM,SYSAUX,USER1,USER2....... ; }

or

RMAN>run {allocate channel ...sbt ;
                backup database skip tablespace A,B,C,D ; }

For backing up the rest of the database the below syntax is used without allocate channel command

Rman> BACKUP DATABASE NOT BACKED UP;

However when the second command is executed the entire database gets backed up again.
