Symptoms

Unable to bring up the database because it doesn't recognize Audit file destination.
Unable to mount the database, even with the audit_file_dest path set with appropriate permissions for that directory.

 

Changes

Changed audit_file_dest path in spfile and removed old audit_file_dest path directory.
