Information in this document applies to any platform.

After setting up expire_logs_days to a value greater than 0, binary logs older than expire_logs_days days will automatically be purged whenever a rotation of the binary log happen.

But after a log rotation, logs that are expected to expire does not get purge and there is no error messages in the error log for the issue.

For a similar issue, but with the error message "[Warning] file /var/log/mysql/bin-log.001234 was not purged because it was being readby thread number 4312" in the error log, see <Note 2085373.1>.

The system time may have been changed.
