"mysqlmonitorctl.sh start tomcat : child process exited abnormally" Error While Installing MySQL Enterprise Monitor (Doc ID 2281001.1)

Symptoms

The following error is reported while installing MySQL Enterprise Monitor

Error running /opt/mysql/enterprise/monitor/mysqlmonitorctl.sh start tomcat >
/dev/null 2> /dev/null: child process exited abnormally

 

Further investigation reveals messages in the catalina-daemon.out file such as

02-Jun-2017 16:27:52.817 WARNING [main] org.apache.catalina.startup.ClassLoaderFactory.validateFile Problem with directory [/opt/mysql/enterprise/monitor/apache-tomcat/lib], exists: [true], isDirectory: [true], canRead: [false]
