Oracle Exadata Storage Server Software - Version 12.2.1.1.0 to 12.1.2.2.3 [Release 12.2 to 12.1]Information in this document applies to any platform.
Symptoms
We may see random DB node hangs after Exadata software image install/upgrade to 12.2. This happens only on Exadata VM compute nodes. All the logging including the Clusterware and database alert log and traces stop during the time of the issue. And the only diagnostic, that can be collected, is the crash dump using the instructions given in Doc ID 1540409.1.
Crash dump analysis would indicate that the guest VM IOs being stuck at some point in the XEN driver level. The file system (ext4) journal processes were blocked at the OS level, resulting in the logging issues.
Changes
