Symptoms

A table-level PARALLEL hint takes the following form:

/*+ parallel(<table>,<degree>) */  -- where <table> is the table name, and <degree> is the desired degree of parallelism (DOP)

 

Before applying the fix for unpublished BUG 21612531 - "MV: CREATE MV REPORTS ORA-12850 IN ALERT LOG," you may see the following when PARALLEL_DEGREE_POLICY = AUTO:

After applying the fix for unpublished BUG 21612531 you may see the following internal error:

 

Note: Although the title of unpublished Bug 21612531 mentions materialized views, they are not necessary to hit this bug.
