Last updated on AUGUST 10, 2018

Applies to:

Oracle Database Cloud Service - Version N/A and later
Oracle Database Cloud Schema Service - Version N/A and later
Oracle Database Exadata Cloud Machine - Version N/A and later

The steps pertain to Oracle Database 11gr2 11.2.0.4 and later.

Goal

The steps provided in this document will assist with migration from an existing environment consisting of non-CDB databases to an Exadata cloud based environment with optional conversion to Oracle multitenant architecture in a manner providing limited downtime and easy fallback should issues arise during the plug in operation. Included in the steps is the ability to incorporate Oracle Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) and optionally encrypt existing user data prior to plug in to the destination container database (CDB). The defined process is supported for 11.2.0.4 and later databases.

This MOS document is in its first design phase (“Concept”) and we expect to continue to modify it during next phases (“Testing” and “Refinement”). Readers are encouraged to validate the code and samples in a Test environment first before applying them in production however this level of verification is being targeted before full release to customers.  This process has been internally tested directly on Oracle Cloud provisioned hardware and software.
