12.2 and Later Releases: Global Database Link: ORA-2019 Connection Description Not Found (Doc ID 2328394.1)

Last updated on MARCH 31, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle Net Services - Version 12.2.0.1 to 18.3.0.0.0 [Release 12.2 to 18.1]
Information in this document applies to any platform.
This issue is limited to version 12.2 where the global or implicit database link feature is no long enabled by default.

Symptoms

Following an upgrade of the database to 12.2, global or implicit database links are no longer working.

LDAP naming is in place for the local database but a select across the dblink using the LDAP naming entry
will fail with:  ORA-02019: connection description for remote database not found

For example, using an LDAP resolvable alias 'MYSID' as a dblink name:

SQL> select count(*) From mytable@MYSID;

select count(*) From mytable@MYSID *

ERROR at line 1:
ORA-02019: connection description for remote database not found

Error Codes
------------------
ORA-02019

Note in the following example that MYSID is an entry in our LDAP directory and we have
confirmed that it resolves using the LDAP naming adapter.  Our origin database is configured
to use the LDAP naming adapter when the local sqlnet.ora file contains this or similar setting:

NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH=(LDAP,TNSNAMES)

Changes

 This is either an upgrade to 12.2 or a new installation of 12.2 where the DBA is attempting to use the global or implicit dblink feature.
