Goal

This article is for DBAs using LDAP for Oracle Net service naming, but not particularly familiar with Oracle Internet Directory (OID) and the tools to manage LDAP directory entries.

It describes the steps to create a new OracleContext under a new Directory Information Tree (DIT) or subscriber DN and copy the Oracle Net service names from the old DIT to the new DIT.

Slight variations on this technique can be used to backup Oracle Net Service names or to migrate them from one server to another.

Warning: This technique does not take into account the sub-entries which if not present will cause NetManager to fail if used to manage the entries.
