datapatch hangs indefinitely on Linux after "Connecting to database…OK" (Doc ID 2329511.1)

Symptoms

After applying Oct 2017 Proactive DB BP & OJVM PSU,When running datapatch there is an indefinite hang observed as below-

[host1]/refresh/home/app/oracle/product/12.1.0/dbhome_1/OPatch> ./datapatch -verbose
