Symptoms
Attempts to build Berkeley DB with:
../dist/configure --prefix=${BDBINSTALLDIR} --enable-cxx --enable-sql --enable-debug --enable-diagnostic --enable-posixmutexes --enable-pthread_api --enable-umrw --with-mutex=POSIX/pthreads
fail with:
checking whether the C compiler works... no
Configure: error: in '/home/oracle/Berkeley_DB/db-6.2.32/build_unix':
configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
