How to Change a "limit" Parameter on the BDA (Doc ID 2353005.1)

Last updated on MAY 16, 2024

Applies to:

Big Data Appliance Integrated Software - Version 4.9.0 and later
Linux x86-64

Goal

Linux limits files are located in the limits.d directory, /etc/security/limits.d.
The BDA limits file is located in the limits.d directory at:

/etc/security/limits.d/95-bda.conf

This note provides information on how to change a limits parameter on the BDA.

Such changes are supported but the recommendation is not to make changes to the BDA limits file, /etc/security/limits.d/95-bda.conf directly. The recommendation is to create your own limits file in the limits.d directory that overrides the particular setting of interest.

For example consider the case of changing the soft core limit from the default of unlimited to 5GB to limit very large core file dumps.
