Creating a Hive External Table Using a Data Pump Format on HDP Fails with "FAILED: Execution Error, return code 1 from org.apache.hadoop.hive.ql.exec.DDLTask. oracle/hadoop/utils/DBUtils" (Doc ID 2363126.1)

Symptoms

After installing Big Data SQL (BDS) 3.2 on a Hortonworks Data Platform(HDP) environment and creating a Hive external table using a Data Pump format as described in the Big Data SQL User's Guide Appendix A.1 Generating the Data Pump Files an execution error is thrown as below:

hive> CREATE EXTERNAL TABLE <TABLENAME>
> ROW FORMAT SERDE 'oracle.hadoop.hive.datapump.DPSerDe'
> STORED AS
> INPUTFORMAT 'oracle.hadoop.hive.datapump.DPInputFormat'
> OUTPUTFORMAT 'org.apache.hadoop.hive.ql.io.HiveIgnoreKeyTextOutputFormat'
> LOCATION 'hdfs_directory'
> ;
FAILED: Execution Error, return code 1 from org.apache.hadoop.hive.ql.exec.DDLTask. oracle/hadoop/utils/DBUtils
