ORA-1103 While Mounting the Database Using PFILE

Symptoms
Mounting the database using pfile option fails with error:
startup mount pfile='D:\oracle\admin\db92\pfile\initDB92.ora'
ORA-01103 - database name <name> in control file is NOT <name>
But if you just issue "startup" it opens the database.
SQL> startup
ORACLE instance started.
Total System Global Area 135338868 bytes
Fixed Size 453492 bytes
Variable Size 109051904 bytes
Database Buffers 25165824 bytes
Redo Buffers 667648 bytes
Database mounted.
Database opened.
SQL>
In this case it is using spfile by default. Spfile file for the same instance is intact.
