Symptoms

Executing DBMS_STATS.GATHER_DATABASE_STATS_JOB_PROC fails in SQL*Plus as follows:

SQL> exec DBMS_STATS.GATHER_DATABASE_STATS_JOB_PROC;
BEGIN DBMS_STATS.GATHER_DATABASE_STATS_JOB_PROC; END;

ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel

The associated error in the alert log is:
