When the database runs for more than 4 or 5 days, the shutdown immediate will not complete even after 1 hour. We need to do shut abort to bring it down. However, the subsequent shutdown immediate operations are completing fast. Database dismount is completing fast and only one process was alive and holding shared memory segments preventing the shutdown. This process is the process which issued shutdown immediate command.
