Big Data SQL 3.2 Queries Fail With "Invalid host name: local host is: (unknown);" (Doc ID 2424658.1)

Symptoms

After installing BDS 3.2 successfully queries fail with:

ORA-29913: error in executing ODCIEXTTABLEOPEN callout
ORA-29400 data cartridge error
KUP-11504: error from external driver: oracle.hadoop.sql.xcat.common.XCatException : 1001 : Error getting splits document. Cause : java.net.UnknownHostException: Invalid host name: local host is: (unknown); destination host is: "bdanode01.example.com":8020; java.net.UnknownHostException; For more details see: http://wiki.apache.org/hadoop/UnknownHost

2. The /etc/hosts file, used for name resolution, is configured like:

*.*.*.1 bdanode01.example.com bdanode01
*.*.*.2 bdanode02.example.com bdanode02
*.*.*.3 bdanode03.example.com bdanode03
*.*.*.4 bdanode04.example.com bdanode04
*.*.*.5 bdanode05.example.com bdanode05
*.*.*.6 bdanode06.example.com bdanode06
