InfiniBand HCA firmware 2.35.5532 is incompatible on Exadata servers running 12.1.2.2.1 and earlier versions (Doc ID 2462395.1)

Symptoms

After updating Exadata software on X4 or X5 database or storage servers from Exadata version <= 12.1.2.2.1 to version >= 12.1.2.3.7 or >= 12.2.1.1.3, then rolling back the update to <= 12.1.2.2.1, the following symptoms may occur:

  1. Exadata validations may hang during system startup
  2. The server cannot communicate over the InfiniBand network
  3. The following errors are reported in /var/log/messages
      

This issue affects only X4 and X5 Exadata servers.  X3 and earlier Exadata hardware uses different InfiniBand HCAs than X4 and X5.  X6 and later Exadata hardware does not support Exadata software version <= 12.1.2.2.1.
