Symptoms

After upgrading from MySQL Server 5.6 or earlier to 5.7, the mysql_upgrade script takes a long time to complete due to rebuilding tables with temporal columns. Similar for upgrading MySQL NDB Cluster from version 7.3 or earlier to version 7.5 or 7.6 (the two latter are based on Server 5.7).
