ORA-12514 When Connecting to Oracle Database Express Edition (Doc ID 2483987.1)

Symptoms

Oracle Database 11g Express Edition (Oracle 11.0.2) is installed.
When configuring a datasource from the WebLogic Admin Console, it throws following Error:

ORA-12514, TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested

 

The JDBC connection string set in the datasource is:

jdbc:oracle:thin@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=localhost)(PORT=<PORT>))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=XE)))
