Last updated on JULY 20, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version 11.2.0.1 to 18.1.0.0.0 [Release 11.2 to 18]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When database is created using lower case name e.g. racdb and if it is then dropped and recreated with the same name in upper case e.g. RACDB

A wrong case entry will be created in the /etc/oratab file.

The entry will be in lower case e.g. racdb while the database was created as RACDB. It uses the same case which was used to create database at first time.

If the database is created with the same case then you would not hit the issue as the entry would be in the same case.

Only when the name is same but case is different you will hit this issue.

Changes

Creating the database with the same name but different case.
