UPDATE Statement on a Table with a LOB Column Sometimes Fails with ORA-600[ktsplbfmb-dblfree] (Doc ID 2496745.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 03, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Standard Edition - Version 11.1.0.7 to 12.1.0.1 [Release 11.1 to 12.1]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

An UPDATE statement on a table with a LOB column sometimes fails with the following error:

ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [ktsplbfmb - dblfree], [0], [16818990], [16818935], [55], [0], [], [], [], [], [ ], []

The Call Stack Trace in the associated incident trace file shows:

calling <- location <- ksedst1 <- ksedst <- dbkedDefDump
 <- ksedmp <- ksfdmp <- dbgexPhaseII <- dbgexProcessError <- dbgeExecuteForError
  <- dbgePostErrorKGE <- 2269 <- dbkePostKGE_kgsf <- kgeadse <- kgerinv_internal
   <- kgerinv <- kgeasnmierr <- ktsplbfmb <- ktsplbrecl <- ktspgsp_main
    <- kdlgsp_init <- kdl_write1 <- kdl_copy <- kdlf_copy <- kokliclo
     <- koklcre <- kokleva <- evaopn2 <- qesltcEvalOutofLineCols <- qesltcBeforeRowProcessing
      <- PGOSF666_qerltcNoKdtBufferedInsRowCBK <- qerltcSingleRowLoad <- qerltcFetch <- insexe <- opiexe
       <- kpoal8 <- opiodr <- ttcpip <- opitsk <- opiino
        <- opiodr <- opidrv <- sou2o <- opimai_real <- opimai
         <- OracleThreadStart <- 00000000773859CD <- 00000000774E383D

This issue occurs infrequently.  If the UPDATE statement is issued again, it will complete successfully.

This issue occurs only when the LOB column uses BasicFile storage, not with SecureFile storage.
