Client Validation Matrix for Application Continuity (Doc ID 2511448.1)

Last updated on MARCH 12, 2021

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version to [Release 11.2 to 19]
Information in this document applies to any platform.
Application Continuity (AC) masks outages from end-users and applications by recovering in-flight work for database sessions following outages. This recovery is performed beneath the application such that the outage appears to the application as a slight delay in execution. Transparent Application Continuity is a mode of Application Continuity that is designed to be enabled by default - it is less configurable than AC but requires no knowledge of application behaviour.
Transparent Application Continuity is enabled by default on the services TPURGENT and TP provided with Oracle's Autonomous Database.
Both AC and TAC are designed for OLTP-style applications; those with short duration transactions. AC and TAC will protect all applications (OLTP, Data Warehouse, batch, analytics, etc) but for those applications that return very large data sets to the client (typically warehouse style operations) ensure that sufficient memory is provided to the client for application continuity metadata.

This document provides a set of recommended client patches for those clients using services enabled for Transparent Application Continuity or Application Continuity, whether this be with the Oracle Autonomous Database or an on-premise installation of the Oracle Database.

This document is intended for architects, database administrators, and application developers.
