z/OS: How to FTP and UNZIP patches from My Oracle Support to Unix Systems Services (USS) environment on z/OS (Doc ID 252166.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 02, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Database Exadata Express Cloud Service - Version N/A and later
Gen 1 Exadata Cloud at Customer (Oracle Exadata Database Cloud Machine) - Version N/A and later
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Database Service - Version N/A and later
Oracle Database Backup Service - Version N/A and later
Oracle Database Cloud Exadata Service - Version N/A and later
IBM z/OS on System z

Purpose

With the delivery of Oracle 9.2 for Oracle on z/OS you have the ability to
download and unzip patches on Unix System Services (USS) rather than downloading
them to Windows and unzipping there and FTPing the XMIT files to MVS. This is
an example of how to download and install the unzip program and download the zip
file from My Oracle Support to USS.

Even though Oracle 9.2 has been desupported, per <Doc ID 189908.1>, this may be useful when running Oracle 9.2 server on z/OS.

Scope

z/OS or OS/390 users responsible for applying patchsets on Oracle products for the z/OS mainframe.
