Symptoms

OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "MY_SERVER" returned "catastrophic" errors when linking tables to RDB via the RDB ODBC driver. Problem can occur with any product using the Microsoft OLEdb Provider for ODBC including Microsoft SQLServer, Visual Basic and others.

Changes

Possible upgrade to Microsoft SQLServer 2016 or Microsoft Windows Server 2016. Previous versions worked fine and the only change was the Microsoft product upgrade.
