Upgrade of Connector/J RPM Package Replaces All Old Files With the New Version, Making The Need Of Changing the App Code After (Doc ID 2536250.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 27, 2020

Applies to:

MySQL Connectors - Version 8.0 to 8.0 [Release 8.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

The rpm package for connector/J EL7 looks like this:

Upgrading this package to 8.0.15 would replace all the old files with files containing 8.0.15 instead of 14.

This isn't very helpful when trying to upgrade a component without changing the code that calls for the component as you would have to do this with the full version in the name of the jar-file.

If the package contained a link called "/usr/share/java/mysql-connector-java-commercial.jar" that pointed to "/usr/share/java/mysql-connector-java-commercial-.jar" then the package would be much easier to upgrade as it wouldn't need any further updates (on the app code or elsewhere).
