IMPDP/EXPDP Doesn't work wih OS authentication or External Password Store
(Doc ID 2560960.1)
Last updated on APRIL 17, 2023
Applies to:
Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version 19.1.0.0.0 and laterInformation in this document applies to any platform.
Symptoms
As of Oracle 19.3, the EXPDP/IMPDP scripts are hanging due to request for password for specified user.
If password is specified explicitly in command line "impdp user/password ..." it always connect without asking for password, but this is security issue, since password is revealed in command.
If I configure secure external password store as per (Doc ID 340559.1), I'm successfully able to connect "sqlplus /@tnsconnstring" without asking for password.
It seems, that IMPDP and EXPDP ignores secure external password :
$ sqlplus /@IMPORTDP
connected
SQL> exit;
$ impdp /@IMPORTDP
