Last updated on APRIL 03, 2020

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

The major RMAN rule is the versions of the RMAN executable and the target database should be the same.
If it happens by mistake the lower version of executable is used (f.e. 8.1.7 against 9.2.0
target database), you may receive following misleading error:

ORA-04062: signature of package "SYS.DBMS_BACKUP_RESTORE" has been changed

*Cause: Attempt to execute a stored procedure to serve
an RPC stub which specifies a timestamp or signature that is
different from the current timestamp/signature of the procedure.
*Action: Recompile the caller in order to pick up the new timestamp.

Described scenario may happen after target database upgrade when OEM backup jobs or OEM Backup
Manager is used to perform RMAN backups.
