Hive Metastore Canary Fails When the Canary Test Can Not Establish a Connection to the Hive Metastore Server (Doc ID 2600951.1)

Symptoms

Cloudera Manager shows that the Hive Metastore Canary test fails intermittently with:

The Hive Metastore canary failed for an unknown reason

The Service Monitor logs on the host with Service Monitor role at: /var/log/cloudera-scm-firehose//mgmt-cmf-mgmt-SERVICEMONITOR-<HOSTNAME3>.<DOMAIN>.log.out, show:

INFO hive.metastore: Trying to connect to metastore with URI thrift://<HOSTNAME4>.<DOMAIN>:9083
WARN hive.metastore: Failed to connect to the MetaStore Server...
...
WARN com.cloudera.cmon.firehose.polling.CdhTask: Exception in doWork for task:
hive_HIVE_METASTORE_CANARY_hive-HIVEMETASTORE-<#>
com.cloudera.cmf.cdhclient.common.hive.MetaException:
Could not connect to meta store using any of the URIs provided. Most recent failure:
com.cloudera.cdh5client.hive.shaded.org.apache.thrift.transport.TTransportException: Peer indicated failure: GSS initiate failed
