RDBPROD: %SQL-F-NORTNPRIV, GRANT and REVOKE are invalid on Stored Procedures (Doc ID 260806.1)

Last updated on MAY 03, 2018

Applies to:

Oracle Rdb Server on OpenVMS - Version and later
HP OpenVMS Alpha
HP OpenVMS Itanium

After database protection has been granted, users are unable to use one of the standard SQL functions. Although the example used here is based on the INSTR function, this may also affect the use of other functions, and a similar solution can be adopted in such cases.

The problem arises when a user tries to use the function.

SQL> select INSTR(last_name,'it',1,1),last_name from employees;
%RDB-E-NO_PRIV, privilege denied by database facility

Granting privileges to the user directly on the function will not work.

SQL> grant all on function INSTR to [group,user] ;
%SQL-F-NORTNPRIV, GRANT and REVOKE are invalid on Stored Procedures and SQL Functions
