MILLION RECORDS IN AUDIT TRAIL FOR "SELECT" ACTION BEFORE 19C WHEN UNIFIED AUDITING ENABLED (Doc ID 2619012.1)

Last updated on JULY 20, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version 12.1.0.1 to 19.3.0.0.0 [Release 12.1 to 18]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Before 19c version, when Database auditing is configured for SELECT action, any DB user logging into DB using SQLPLUS client generate 5-6 SELECT statements.

These SELECT statements are not executed by end user and t is hard to justify them to auditor.

These statements add noise to the audit trail and could grow in huge volume with frequent logins/logoffs

happening to DB instance through SQLPLUS.

And it also impacts the DB user logon performance as audit record is getting written for each of these SELECT statements.

Changes

Enable one Unified Audit Policy and frequent logins logoffs happening to DB instance through SQLPLUS.
