Different Results From Query using SUM / GROUP using internal_tmp_disk_storage_engine=innodb (Doc ID 2633748.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 09, 2020

Applies to:

MySQL Server - Version 5.7 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Prior to MySQL 5.7.27,  a particular select query using sum / group which required to use disk tmp tables, would always return the expected result.

As of 5.7.27 when using internal_tmp_disk_storage_engine=innodb, the results could change on subsequent executions of the same query on a static table.

If storage_engine= MyISAM is used with the setting disk temp table engine, the results were always the same ( and accurate ).

Note: It does not appear to affect 8.0. internal_tmp_disk_storage_engine variable was removed in 8.0.16
