Last updated on FEBRUARY 14, 2020

Applies to:

Oracle Big Data SQL - Version 3.0 and later
Big Data Appliance Integrated Software - Version 4.10.0 to 4.12.0 [Release 4.10]
Linux x86-64

Symptoms

NOTE: In the examples that follow, user details, cluster names, hostnames, directory paths, filenames, etc. represent a fictitious sample (and are used to provide an illustrative example only). Any similarity to actual persons, or entities, living or dead, is purely coincidental and not intended in any manner.

On Oracle Big Data SQL version 3.0.0 and later running on CDH versions 5.12.0, 5.12.1, 5.12.2, 5.13.0, 5.13.1, 5.13.2, 5.13.3, 5.14.0, 5.14.1, 5.14.2 and 5.14.3 and on Oracle Big Data Appliance versions 4.10, 4.11 and 4.12, Resource Manager cgroup memory settings in Cloudera Manager are not propagated to spawned processes.  This means that Resource Manager cgroup memory settings are not defined in Big Data SQL processes.

To identify this issue search for error messages like below in /var/log/cloudera-scm-agent/cloudera-scm-agent.log on all cluster hosts.

Note: Check the message date and time to ensure the messages are recent.
