Check if the terminal line settings (stty) allows to manage the expected characters.

Note that this note is about "real" unix terminals or X env emulators, not telnet/ssh connections.
We suggest to read first <> The correct NLS_LANG setting in Unix Environments and set you environment correctly and then, if there are still problem and you are using a X window environment , to use this note.
