SELECT COUNT(*) On Large Table Slow in 8.0.17 Thru 8.0.19 (Doc ID 2669203.1)

Last updated on MAY 13, 2020

Applies to:

MySQL Server - Version 8.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

The symptom is slower than expected SELECT COUNT(*) from a large table.  And each time after the first,  InnoDB reads a lot of disk pages, as they are not cached in the buffer pool, as can be seen here for a table 14G table called "t".

Changes

Recent upgrade to 8.0.17, 8.0.18, or 8.0.19 from an older release.
