Symptoms
The database fails to mount with following errors.
I/O error is raised in the control file which resides on NFS.
Taking strace output of the startup process will show "pread" system call to the control file raising EIO (Input/output error), but there is no ownership or permission problems with the file, and the file can be accessed by the oracle user using "vi" or "strings" command with no errors.
Changes
NFS version may have been upgraded.
