Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) Reports Error `products.xml is either a directory or is a corrupt file` (Doc ID 270046.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 05, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version 9.2.0.5 and later
Oracle Universal Installer - Version 10.1.0.2 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

After successfully installing OUI 10.1.0.2 from the 9.2.0.5 RDBMS patchset, you now try to execute it from the ORACLE_HOME/bin directory:

cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin
$./runInstaller

When you click on 'Next' on the 'File Locations' screen, you get the error:

"..../Disk1/stage/products.xml is either a directory , or is a corrupt file.
Specify a filename."

You have verified that the file products.xml really exists.

If you run OUI from the directory where you unzipped the 9.2.0.5 patchset, it works correctly.
