RMAN Duplicate For Standby Waiting for Archivelog which Does Not Exist On Standby Server

Symptoms
RMAN active duplicate for standby waits for an archivelog file which doesn't exist on the standby. Instead it continually repeats the need for that particular sequence, like:
RMAN-08515: archived log file name=/<path>/<SID>10252866361493.arc thread=1 sequence=493
RMAN-08515: archived log file name=/<path>/<SID>10252866361493.arc thread=1 sequence=493
RMAN-08515: archived log file name=/<path>/<SID>10252866361493.arc thread=1 sequence=493
RMAN-08515: archived log file name=/<path>/<SID>10252866361493.arc thread=1 sequence=493
RMAN-08515: archived log file name=/<path>/<SID>10252866361493.arc thread=1 sequence=493
RMAN-08515: archived log file name=/<path>/<SID>10252866361493.arc thread=1 sequence=493
RMAN-08515: archived log file name=/<path>/<SID>10252866361493.arc thread=1 sequence=493
etc
