Symptoms

ORA-07445 errors are raised on a database instance, e.g.




This should write an OS-level core file.  However, a check of the diagnostic_dest cdump directory shows subdirectories are created, but they are empty. 

Such empty subdirectories might also be created in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs or $ORACLE_HOME/bin.
