How to reduce time to shutdown on a busy MySQL database (Doc ID 2713474.1)

Goal

A typical highly active database can take time to shutdown, which can run over into, eg the start of a maintenance window.

There are some configuration steps that can be taken to assist in reducing the time taken for a DB to safely shutdown in the lead up to the shutdown command being issued.
