Symptoms
AWR snapshots are not generated automatically on a regular schedule. This problem occurs intermittently.
Generating an AWR snapshot manually succeeds, however.
The MMON background process is in charge of AWR snapshot generation. Examination of a hanganalyze trace, during the time of incident, shows that MMON is trying to execute PL/SQL function, DBMS_QOPATCH.GET_OPATCH_LSINVENTORY, but is stuck on an extremely long, external-table read. The function, skudmir(), appears within the short stack.
