Failover failed with ORA-16479: cannot connect to the far sync instance (Doc ID 2768692.1)

Symptoms

For the purposes of this document, the following fictitious environment is used as an example to describe the procedure:

Standby Database Unique Name: standby_db_xyz




Setup:

=====
Primary & Farsync on same Data Center.
Physical standby on different Data Center.

Due to some reason the Data Center which was hosting Primary DB and Farsync DB was not available and decided to perform the failover to standby which was available in another data center has failed with below errors:

Executing SQL: [ALTER DATABASE FAILOVER TO standby_db_xyz]
SQL Execution error=604, sql=[ALTER DATABASE FAILOVER TO standby_db_xyz]
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-00283: recovery session canceled due to errors
ORA-16479: cannot connect to the far sync instance

Broker error:

DGMGRL> failover to standby_db_xyz
Performing failover NOW, please wait...

Error: ORA-16479: cannot connect to the far sync instance

Failed.
Unable to failover
