opatchauto apply for Database home fails with 'OPATCHAUTO-72083: The bootstrap execution failed because Cannot detect any valid Grid Infrastructure setup' (Doc ID 2771446.1)

Symptoms

Applying patch to RAC Database Home using opatchauto fails as below.:

#opatchauto apply <UNZIPPED_PATCH_LOCATION>/%BUGNO%  -oh <path to Database  home>

OPatchauto session is initiated at <timestamp>
OPATCHAUTO-72083: Performing bootstrap operations failed.
OPATCHAUTO-72083: The bootstrap execution failed because Cannot detect any valid Grid Infrastructure setup..
OPATCHAUTO-72083: Fix the reported problem and re-run opatchauto.

OPatchauto session completed at <timestamp>
Time taken to complete the session 0 minute, 1 second

 

Even analyze command fails with above error:

#opatchauto apply <UNZIPPED_PATCH_LOCATION>/%BUGNO% -analyze -oh <path to Database home>

However applying patch only to GI Home ,completed successfully.

#opatchauto apply <UNZIPPED_PATCH_LOCATION>/%BUGNO% -oh <GI_HOME>
