PITR to Orphan Incarnation Fails with ORA-39889 (Doc ID 2807322.1)

Last updated on APRIL 17, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version 12.2.0.1 to 20.1 Preview [Release 12.2 to 20.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

After successfully completing a PDB point in time recovery (PITR) until T1 and the current time is C1, RMAN will fail with ORA-39889 trying to run another PITR to a different timestamp T2 <C1.
This occurs when T1<T2<C1.

Note, RMAN is able to run PITR to any time > C1.

After the initial PITR to T1, RMAN will only be able to perform another PITR to a time beyond current time, C1.
