Symptoms

When running DBMS_STATS.GATHER_FIXED_OBJECTS_STATS, higher than expected PGA memory is allocated, possibly resulting in errors as follows:

Further troubleshooting reveals that the memory is allocated when the DBMS_STATS.GATHER_FIXED_OBJECTS_STATS job runs a certain query against fixed table X$KQLFSQCE.
