Purpose

Ethernet networks follow the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model.  This note covers some quick steps to troubleshoot Ethernet network issues during installation.  It does not cover troubleshooting an Ethernet network that has failed.  When one finds that after the installation the network is not working, these steps should help in finding at which layer it is failing.
