bdachecksw Reports "grep: /etc/ntp.conf: No such file or directory" on a BDA Cluster Using an Alternative to NTP like chronyd (Doc ID 2874985.1)

Last updated on JULY 20, 2024

Applies to:

Big Data Appliance Integrated Software - Version 4.13.0 and later
Linux x86-64

Symptoms

bdachecksw reports the messages below on a BDA cluster host(s) using an alternative to NTP like chronyd.

grep: /etc/ntp.conf: No such file or directory"
WARNING: At least 3 NTP servers are required

On BDA clusters which have replaced the use of NTP with an alternative like chronyd, messages like the above will be raised.

Note: If the cluster is using chronyd and the cluster is not using NTP i.e. ntpd is not running, then you can safely remove /etc/ntp.conf. chrondy uses its own conf file "/etc/chrony.conf". It does not use /etc/ntp.conf.  You can backup/move the file out of the way as well.
