Symptoms

NOTE: In the examples that follow, user details, cluster names, hostnames, directory paths, filenames, etc. represent a fictitious sample (and are used to provide an illustrative example only). Any similarity to actual persons, or entities, living or dead, is purely coincidental and not intended in any manner.

Step 3, UpdateBaseImage, of a mammoth expansion fails on clusters which have previously upgraded OL6 to OL7 due to conflicts between OL7 packages installed on the cluster and OL6 packages remaining in the bda repository.

Details on the Mammoth Expansion Failure

Note: The conflict between the OL7 packages installed on the hosts and OL6 packages remaining in the bda repository are raised only on the existing cluster nodes.
The new nodes being expanded into the cluster do not face any issue.

1. Expansion fails with an error indicating that "Miscsetup::Patch_fimage/Exec[post_upgrade_script]" failed on each existing cluster node.

2. Examining the generated /opt/oracle/BDAMammoth/bdaconfig/tmp/post_upgrade_script_<ID>.out on each cluster node indicates package(s) conflicts between the OL7 packages installed on the host and a corresponding OL6 package in the bda repo, like:

Protected multilib versions: man-pages-overrides-6.10.0-1.el6.noarch != man-pages-overrides-7.5.2-1.el7.x86_64
Baseimage yum upgrade failed

Additional Symptoms/Troubleshooting

1. On all hosts, only OL7 packages exist for package(s) with an OL6/OL7 package conflict.

For example:

a) On existing hosts:
