How Can a BDA 5.2 Upgrade be Stopped After the Base Image Upgrade and the Remaining Step Resumed Later (Doc ID 2908908.1)

Last updated on APRIL 17, 2023

Applies to:

Big Data Appliance Integrated Software - Version 4.13.0 and later
Linux x86-64

Goal

It is possible to stop a BDA 5.2 Mammoth upgrade after the base image upgrade has completed.

This can be useful when the upgrade maintenance window is not long enough to complete the upgrade. See the BDA 5.2 Owner's Guide section, "10.7.2.2 Using the Mammoth "step" and "range" Options in Upgrades" for details.

This does not mean that the upgrade can be rolled back as discussed in, Can A BDA/BDCS Cluster Upgrade Be Rolled Back To The Original Version Once It Is Started? (Doc ID 2327973.1).  The purpose is to provide an option to upgrade the cluster to the BDA 5.2 base image and continue the rest of the upgrade at another time.
