Disable "/etc/issue.net" and/or "/etc/issue" Banners Before a Mammoth Upgrade (Doc ID 2923369.1)

Last updated on APRIL 17, 2023

Applies to:

Big Data Appliance Integrated Software - Version 4.13.0 and later
Linux x86-64

Goal

NOTE: In the examples that follow, user details, cluster names, hostnames, directory paths, filenames, etc. represent a fictitious sample (and are used to provide an illustrative example only). Any similarity to actual persons, or entities, living or dead, is purely coincidental and not intended in any manner.

Both /etc/issue.net and /etc/issue are used to display a banner to SSH users before the login prompt.
Such banners may cause a Mammoth upgrade to fail. As such these banners need to be disabled prior to upgrade and must be disabled for the duration of the Mammoth upgrade.
The banner can be restored when the upgrade completes.

If such banners are active:

1. Logging into a node via ssh issues a message like below before the login prompt.

To disable a banner in "/etc/issue.net" and "/etc/issue" raised during an ssh login or dcli command, follow the steps in the Solution section below.
